Public swimming pools in Penang: council pools, hours and entry fees
The council pool at Jalan Betek on the mainland, with its session times, entry fees and passes as MBSP publishes them, and what the island council does and does not publish about its pool at Relau.
The council pool with published hours and fees is MBSP's pool at the MBSP Sports and Recreational Complex on Jalan Betek, on the mainland: RM4 a session for an adult and RM2 for a child or senior citizen, in two sessions a day, closed on Fridays. On the island, MBPP's Relau sports complex has an Olympic-size pool, but neither MBPP nor the state publishes hours or entry fees for it.

Jalan Betek pool (MBSP, Seberang Perai Tengah)
MBSP reopened the pool on 1 July 2026 after an upgrade costing RM3.76 million, Buletin Mutiara reported. MBSP's page for the complex, updated on 5 October 2026, describes an Olympic-size pool, a training pool and a water play park, and gives these rates.
Sessions. Two a day: 8:30am to 1pm and 4pm to 9pm. An MBSP councillor told Buletin Mutiara in August 2026 that the morning session now starts at 8:30am (it was 9am) from 1 September 2026, and that the pool is closed every Friday.
Entry, per session:
- Adult: RM4.00
- Child: RM2.00
- Senior citizen: RM2.00, and free on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning session only
- Person with a disability (OKU): free, on showing the OKU card
- Non-citizen: RM15.00
MBSP's page does not give the age it counts as a child, or the locker fee.
Free entry for carers. From 1 September 2026, a parent or guardian who does not swim but comes with a child aged 12 or under, or with an OKU swimmer, gets in free. Only one carer per child or OKU swimmer.
Passes (citizens only):
| Pass | Adult | Child or senior |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | RM53.00 | RM21.20 |
| 6 months | RM212.00 | RM84.80 |
| 1 year | RM371.00 | RM148.40 |
MBSP says the prices it states include 6% SST and that non-citizens cannot buy a pass.
Water play park. RM3.20 for children and adults, RM10.20 for non-citizens, and free for OKU visitors and senior citizens.
Pool rules. Buletin Mutiara reported in July 2026 that you must wear suitable swimwear and a swimming cap and shower before entering the pool, that lockers are available for a fee, and that children under 12 must be supervised by an adult. The children's pool is now 0.9 metres deep.

The older Seberang Jaya pool page
MBSP's website still has a page for a "Seberang Jaya Public Swimming Pool Complex", last updated on 18 February 2019, with older rates. It is no longer in MBSP's facilities menu. In November 2023 Buletin Mutiara described the Seberang Jaya public pool as being on Jalan Betek, so it may be the same pool. The Jalan Betek rates above are the ones MBSP now publishes.

Island: Relau sports complex (MBPP)
The Kompleks Sukan Bandaraya Relau (the city sports complex at Relau) was designed in-house by MBPP's architects. As published in 2015, plans included an Olympic-size pool, a diving pool and 10 badminton courts. As published in 2017, the complex was due to open to the public in mid-February 2017, and the Chief Minister said its pool and badminton courts were built to Olympic standards.
MBPP does not publish the pool's opening hours or entry fees on its website or its booking portal, and no recent report gives them.
