Donate clothes and household items in Penang: what each place takes

Where preloved clothes, books and household items can go in Penang, what the charities ask for, and their published hours and numbers.

The short version

Where to take things

WCC Value Shop

Salvation Army, Penang Family Thrift Store (as published in 2023)

Lighthouse Thrift Store

WCC Value Shop

The Women's Centre for Change (WCC) Penang runs the Value Shop. Its page says it welcomes donations of preloved clothing, household items, books and accessories, and that donors can drop off at both WCC offices and the Value Shop. The page gives the WCC office line as 04-228 0342, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

In October 2026, WCC told The Star it welcomes "clean, saleable and good-quality clothing, shoes, bags, books, household items and accessories". Donations are sorted and assessed before suitable items are priced. Prices are generally RM2 to RM30. In September 2026, the shop's lead manager told The Star that only about 40% of donated items are suitable for resale.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army's Red Shield Industries page listed a Penang Family Thrift Store and the Penang Children's Home as places to give items, as published in 2023. Ask the Salvation Army for its Penang address and hours before you go.

The same page said bulky items like furniture and large appliances could be collected by arrangement, through a national online booking, WhatsApp and a 03 (Klang Valley) phone number. Ask the Salvation Army whether it collects in Penang.

Lighthouse Thrift Store

The Star reported in September 2026 that the Lighthouse Thrift Store on Jalan Penang sells preloved items donated by well-wishers to raise funds for Lighthouse's programmes, including a soup kitchen. A staff member said the shop has repeatedly asked people not to donate used underwear, for hygiene reasons. The report gives no hours, phone number or list of what it accepts.

Other names on the Penang Green Council list

Penang Green Council's FAQ (directory last updated 3 July 2024) names these second-hand shops and charity groups for clothes and household items in good condition: KAWAN shop, The Salvation Army Penang Children's Home, Eden Handicap Service Centre Berhad and WCC Value Shop. It gives no addresses or hours. For worn-out clothes, it points to merchants with clothes recycling programmes, naming H&M and Uniqlo, "subject to change".
