Home internet in Penang: checking fibre at your address and published plan prices
Check fibre at your exact address on each provider's own coverage checker before you sign anything, and ask the provider to confirm it. Unifi, CelcomDigi and Maxis publish home fibre plans; here are their speeds and monthly prices exactly as each publishes them, with contract terms where stated, and the route for complaints.
The short version
Before you sign up, put your exact address into each provider's own coverage checker, because fibre availability changes from building to building. Unifi, CelcomDigi and Maxis all publish home fibre plans on their own websites; the prices below are copied from those pages as shown on 14 October 2026, and they change often.
- Coverage checkers are a guide only. Unifi says its checker is for information and does not guarantee service at your address; it points you to its sign-up page to confirm.
- Read the contract. Unifi and CelcomDigi state a 24-month contract on their plan pages. Maxis's page shows a price "for the first 24 months" but does not show the contract terms.
- Complaints: go to the provider first, then the Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum (CFM), then MCMC. See the last section.
Providers are listed in alphabetical order.
Checking coverage at your address
| Provider | Where to check |
|---|---|
| CelcomDigi | "Check coverage" on its Home Fibre page |
| Maxis | Its Home Fibre page; if fibre is not yet available, it offers a "Contact me once available" form |
| Unifi | unifi.com.my/check-coverage (fibre and 5G) |
| Yes | "Coverage Checker" on yes.my, for its 5G network (wireless, not fibre) |
Unifi's checker asks for a street, taman or apartment name rather than a unit number. CelcomDigi's page suggests its Home WiFi if fibre is not available in your area.
Fibre on the way in Penang. On 2 May 2025 Maxis announced a plan to connect more than 100,000 homes in Penang to its own fibre by 2027, across all districts, with a focus on Jelutong, George Town, Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas and Bayan Baru and key areas on the mainland. Maxis said the rollout was helped by the Penang state government's Last Mile Connectivity Guidelines, which simplify pole sharing for fibre.
