Visas and MM2H: the official rules for staying in Malaysia long term
What the official MM2H pages say about the four categories, the deposits, fees, property rules and pass lengths, plus where Immigration publishes visa fees. Not legal advice.
The short version
- MM2H (Malaysia My Second Home) has four categories: Platinum, Gold, Silver and a Special Economic Zone / Special Financial Zone category.
- Every category needs a fixed deposit in a Malaysian bank, a one-off participating fee, and a home you buy and keep for 10 years.
- You apply through a licensed MM2H tour operating business. Immigration makes the final decision.
- Participants aged below 50 must spend 90 days a year in Malaysia.
- Immigration publishes visa fees by country. Its portal carries a notice that the Multiple Entry Visa is no longer available to all nationalities.
- Rules and fees change, so confirm with the agency before you pay or buy anything.
Who runs MM2H
The programme sits under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC). Its guidelines say you must apply through a licensed MM2H tour operating business, using the One Stop Centre MM2H. Immigration, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, makes the final approval. Appeals also go to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
You must be at least 25 years old for Silver, Gold and Platinum, or at least 21 for the Special Economic Zone category. MOTAC lists these contact details: +603 8891 7568 or +603 8891 7434.

Rules that apply to every category
- Withdrawing from the deposit. After approval you may withdraw up to 50% of the deposit for buying a residence, education, medical and tourism activities in Malaysia.
- Buying a home. It is compulsory to buy and own a residence after you are approved. You may not sell it for 10 years, unless you upgrade to a home of higher value. Breaking any term can lead to the pass being revoked.
- Staying. The guidelines say participants aged below 50 must be in Malaysia for 90 days (cumulative) in one year. Each category page repeats the 90 days. For participants aged 25 to 49, the category pages say the principal and/or the dependants can meet it.
- Medical check-up. Compulsory, at a panel clinic or hospital named by MOTAC, after approval.
- Dependants. A spouse, children under 21, unemployed single children aged 21 to 34 and children with a certified disability of any age. Also parents and parents-in-law.
- Tax. MM2H lists a tax exemption on incoming funds such as the fixed deposit.
- Renewal. After the programme years end, the pass can be renewed every 5 years, with your passport, latest medical report and health insurance.

Other visas and the Immigration Department
The Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia portal links to visit pass services, the MM2H site, an Investor Pass and employment systems for foreign professionals. It carries a notice headed "Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) tidak lagi tersedia untuk semua warganegara", which means the MEV is no longer available to all nationalities. Open that notice if you hold or want an MEV.
Immigration's visa fee page has a table of fees by country, headed "Single/Multiple Entry Visa (RM)". It also says countries that are not in the table pay RM 20.00. Your own country's line is on that page. For visit pass rules, use the Immigration portal and not an agent's summary.
