Hi Kayes,

I am as most people are here in the UK, enduring freezing temperatures at the moment, and it gladdens my heart to view this picture of the 'Rasa Sayang' resort entrance, one of my favourite destinations in the early seventies, 1974 to be precise when it was the place to be seen.

I have been back since it was refurbished with my partner 2008, and have to report that, unlike it's previous incarnation, it was sterile and lacked any warmth, with the lounge bar moved upto the first floor, and somewhat smaller than we rembembered, we both having preferred the old 'Rasa Sayang' but as you know you cannot stop progress.

I have noticed also from the website, 'Kayes' that you have removed the message board, is their a reason? or is it a housekeeping exercise?

I will with my partner Margaret be visiting Penang 2009 staying at our favourite Hotel Destination, the 'E&O' even more so after your descritpion of the sea wall esplanade.

hi Norman, I would say the Rasa Sayang has turned very much aloof in its attempt to become a 6 star hotel. The warmth is not there anymore and the place looks like a guarded fortress now. I have heard complaints that it is now rather foreboding to try entering the hotel grounds. The E & O is a good choice. Try sitting on the seawall (nearer the pool) at night with your loved one with the sea breeze blowing constantly. Instant romance Smile

Actually that "messageboard" was not part of this software. I had it hacked in so that those who are still trying to get used to this new photo messageboard could use that in the interim. However, that hack opened a big security hole in this entire software that runs this board, and so I had to take down that messageboard in a hurry. People like you should have no problems posting to this new board as I have read many of your posts. Do not worry about your message not being read by others because it will be highlighted and others will notice it. Just post your message under a relevant pic or any pic Smile

Belated thanks 'Kayes' for putting my mind at ease with the omission of the 'Message Board', and as you say, I am now familiar with posting of messages with any Picture or Post, knowing that it will be read.

I look forward as always to enjoying quality time at the 'E & O', sometime this year, and will whilst their sitting of an evening 'Al Fresco' enjoy a 'Tiger' or two.

Hello Kayes,
My wife, Pamela and I are hoping to come back to Penang in June for our holiday.
We have been many times before, the last time was in 2006 we always stayed at The Casuarina Hotel which of course is no more.
Pamela 5 years ago had a Brain haemorrhage and subsequently a Stroke.
She is unable to walk and the Stroke affected all of her right side.
After a lot of hard work our consultant said it was ok to go again on our exotic holidays.
In 2011 we went to Singapore. Excellent
In 2012 we went to KL Malaysia. Very Good
and this year we went to Cha-am Thailand. All round poor service by hotel, all agents, reps and airlines(we was let even down by Emirates losing part of Pamela's wheelchair).
We can get her in and out of Taxis and her wheelchair folds up.
I sent Rasa Sayang an e-mail and said they have a couple of Superior rooms in the Rasa Wing that would suit Pamela's disability.
I do know the pavements are not good in Penang but we can always get around that.
Could you give me any information that could be useful. Re toilets, wheelchair accessible to main tourist attractions, shopping centres, etc.
It will be fantastic to go to Penang again.

hello Supervisor, the Rasa Sayang is wheelchair friendly. The best rooms to book would be those on the ground floor where the french windows open into the lawn. The 1st floor rooms are also easily accessible by wheelchair without having to take the lifts. All the newer shopping malls specially those in Gurney Drive are wheelchair friendly ..... like the Paragon Mall and Gurney Plaza. You are coming to Penang at the right time because 2014 is Visit Malaysia Year where there are many special attractions Smile
