This nice jetty structure looks interesting as if it's either new-ish or spruced up. Has it always been there, I mean, during the '70s? It looks kind of familiar.

The whole thing is new. The old Church Street Pier was torn down and in its place a new pier built and called Church Street Pier of course. It was impossible to restore the old pier as the wooden foundations have rotted. I must say it is a job well done. There is also a new marina nearby. This place is right next to the ferry terminal. One of my favourite places in Penang. I am often there early in the morning as the sun rises Smile

Thanks for the description. That explains why I thought it looks kind of familiar yet not something I can remember seeing before. Can one have a nice leisurely breakfast there? Wow, I can imagine how lovely it would be to just sit back with a hot cuppa and watch the slowly rising sun come out.

There is a bistro called QEII there at the end of the pier but they open only in the afternoon. The pier or the marina are nice places to be in the morning. Sunrise not as spectacular as in Tanjong Bungah but sometimes the glow from the rising sun is beautiful here.

Lucky you, living in Penang and being able to pick and choose which scenic spot to watch a beautiful sunrise or sunset any day of the week! Smile

There is a place on Penang Island that for some reason I cannot recall its name. It's Pulau something-or-other. It's quite far from the hustle and bustle of everything happening in Penang. It's like the tail end of nowhere. That friend of mine lived there.

Balik Pulau. I live in Batu Ferringhi and occasionally I drive there on Sundays. Takes me about 30 minutes from here through twisty roads. Good exercise for my Smart.

Yes, it is Balik Pulau. I wanted to write Pulau Balik but thought it sounded odd. Never thought to say it the other way around, silly me. Smile When I was back in Penang in 1990, my partner and I drove a hire-car and we got ourselves hopelessly lost out that way.

Pardon me for barging into this dialogue, but I cannot help feeling that the twisty stretch of road between B. Ferringhi & Tg Bungah was made especially for Kayes & his Fortwo. I've come to this conclusion because I've seen a video awhile back in this forum which this same driving ace took with his camera mounted atop the Smart, revealing his complete mastery of the curves. Poetry in motion indeed!

Ha Ha Hypy, that must be the video which had Ronan Keating singing "Life is a Rollercoaster" in the background Smile!
