Wonder if pic is taken from multistorey car park (east of Komtar) name I cant recall overlooking the street. I remember standing there some years ago taking pics but view isnt exactly same as I recall seing the sea in horizon (is that sea?) and a broken down shop in foreground with huge overhanging tree (which is there but no open space?). Great pic.

David, pic was taken from the Prangin Mall car park. Furthest away in the distance is the sea. In the foreground starting from the green Castrol sign (and leading right) is Rope Walk. You can see the long row of heritage shophouses and Rope Walk cuts across Kimberley Street and Campbell Street before it comes to Chulia Street.

Thanks Kayes; yes Prangin Mall car park is the right name. I remember walking from there through streets of heritage shophouses (possibly Rope Walk), in a northerly direction to E&O Hotel Farquhar Bar; very thirsty by time I reached this great watering hole!

Can someone be kind enough to name the hotels in the pic that have a view of the sea? If Chulia Street is furthest away, is Cititel the one on the extreme right?

hi Ann, Cititel is dead ahead. The one on the right is the City Bayview. Most the hotels in the Penang Road, Farquhar Street areas have rooms that face the sea and also rooms that don't. Some of the hotels are E&O Hotel, Continental Hotel, Hotel Malaysia, Cititel and City Bayview Hotel.

Thanks Kayes. The next time I'm in Penang I'll try and walk through Rope Walk starting from Castrol and look for these hotels and roads/ streets that are pictured in this site which I'm still not familiar with.

You are right Jim. The Maxwell Road Post Office used to be in that area.
