The shame about Chulia street is that there is no clear walkway for pedestrians. They are forced out onto the raod and rarely get a close look into the wonderful small shops that line the street.

The area is also full of snatch theives. I know from personal experience. I was in a tandoori chicken outlet and the thieves arrived on a motorbike and took the handbag off my wife's lap as she sat at the table!

Will not stop me going back again to penang though at Xmas! However one has to be very careful in penang these days, I always feel much safer in Ipoh where I have never had a problem whereas penang my wife got her bag snatched twice and my house was broken into in the middle of the night. Luckily I woke up and chased the burglar out but even luckier the man dropped a chisel he was carrying......instead of sticking it into me. The police were absolutley useless, just enquired how much rent I paid for the house and which football team I supported. I then got "robbed" again by the insurance company who used every trick they could find to reduce my claim.
