Hard to find this kind of barber shop anymore. Can you see the coloured bottles in the shop window? After a shave or a haircut, they use the red stuff to slap on your face and neck. And wow! That is some pick-me-up. You will feel greatly refreshed and walk out like a new man Smile

Splendid! I will drag my grown-up sons there on our next trip back - just for the 'fair dinkum' barber-shop treatment. I think the experience will be worth every ringgit spent. Smile

I notice Penangites like to chain their vehicles - be it car or bicycle ..... Wondering why?

Chains were a necessity, back in 1981 for example. At the formula3 race/125cc step through/ trishaw race day around the clock tower / fort cornwallis course.
My bike was chained and locked down to a building's downwater drain pipe, in a specifically set up bicycle park, even with a security guard standing in the lot.
Bike disappeared.
Cop saw nothing, and I searched around in the nearby monnie drains, just in case because i didnt have effective brakes at the time.
No bike, no ideas, no mangled thief drowning down a monnie drain, and a big walk back home.
Still had a fun day though, which finished off with the Formula 3 drivers speeding back to their Batu Ferringhi hotel and weaving their race cars amongst the peak traffic.

hello tifino and welcome to Penang Talk Smile Glad to see someone who enjoyed our Penang Circuit Races. I was Sec of the Meet in 1977, 78 and 79. Pics below show some F3 cars as well as those racing trishaws with the winner. Hope to read more of your posts. Sorry about your lost bike. The parts most likely landed up at the flea market in Rope Walk.

Hi Kayes,

Curious to know how do the judges pick the winner for the racing trishaws - the one to reach the finishing line first or the one who ferries the prettiest or the most handsome passenger? Smile

or the one who charges the most outrageous fare????

Back in the 1980s we used to get off the ferry from Butterworth to go to the E & O and we each hired a trishaw and got them to race us back to the hotel.....the winner getting an extra dollar!
