I was a member of a team in the early 1980s when the Dragon Boat Races were held at Gurney Drive. The boats were the old wooden style where you stood facing out the side wearing kneepads resting against the boat while rotating the upper half of your body leaning over and holding the paddle in two hands. The last time I was in the team we raced in one of boats as captured in this pic.

hi BeeBee, it was more spectator friendly when the Dragon Boat Races were held at Gurney Drive. The dragon boats in those days looked like Viking vessels and really macho while the boats today are puny looking built mainly for speed.
