Hi Kayes, we have this afternoon been looking through my old photographic slides of when we were in Penang during 1964/1966 and this photo reminded me that we have slides of these actual old wooden carraiges that were in use then. Also some pictures of the lower station long before they started to build the present one.

Derrick, one of the wooden coaches is now at the National Museum in KL. Another at the Penang Museum in George Town. The fourth one is missing. Anyone knows where?

Hi Kayes, The guy that used to run the HERITAGE shop in the old Penang hill carraige at the State Museum now has a stall in the Sunday Market at the E & O end of Penang Rd the last Sunday of every month maybe he would know what happened to the 4th carraige. We have bought quite a few old postcards of Penang from him. At the market I also bought a old betelnut cutter when a reporter and journalist from the 'Star' took my photo buying it, the photograph appeared in the newspaper a few days later after we had left. Although she kindly emailed me a copy a while later.

Hi Kayes. Is the railway back in action yet? I have been off the air for a while but the last I heard they were waiting for a new cable to arrive from Switzerland.

Sad news Kayes, once again the hill railway is out of action, an upgrade to cut out the middle section and a bigger train, just like the 'Peak' in HK. The joy of the old railway will be eroded, nice sedate trip up taking in the views on the way, the new train will be so quick you will be able to take in the tranquility as you ascend. I wonder what they will do with the old carraiges maybe park one with the other one from before. Why can't people let sleeping dogs lie, if it's not broke is does'nt need fixing.
