The train has resumed regular services which means you can travel all the way up to the Top Station now. The cable has been replaced.

On June 5th I attended a meeting with Federal Government in KL about the proposed rebuilding the Hills Railway. My proposal as well as the Residence Of Penang Hill Chairperson. was put and explained for the re think of there proposal ,as it would isolate the people living on the Middle station area.
Where our proposal would allow them to have access to the City.

Hoping I can report further when the discission is made by the Chief Engineer & Government Minister.

Sad I must report that the Minister of Tourist has rejeted the proposal by hills residence & I to upgrade the Hills Railway in two stages as operating now. They have said it will be pulled up and relaid as one line doing away with each powerhouse and using a new one, Using two new carriages, which will travel at 10 times the speed it does now. Which will cause Hight sicknes at that speed. No consideration was given to the fragile hill condition and the transport problem for the people on the hill for the twelve months or more the system will be down.
So long to one of Asias best known Historical Hills Railway.

Hi Kayes, Et Al
Have to report I am now back in the UK, having spent some time in, Singapore (Expensive, Lah) and Penang, where I ventured with my dear friend whilst in Penang, one Dickey Lam to Penang Hill, in particular 'David Brown's' tea rooms, where we took afternoon tea, very nice it was too!
I'm curious, though we travelled the Funicular Railway which is operating normally, I noticed only one track, apart from mid way where the cable cars pass, am I to assume therefore that the tracks to be replaced will be done piecemeal, also I assume work to be carried out overnight to minimise disruption?, I did eventually catch up also with Mr Lim at the 'Orchid Farm' Teluk Bahang, whereupon I presented him with a bona fide 'Alfa Romeo' keyring only to be told he had after 37 years, sold his beloved 'Alfa' four weeks earlier, story of my life really, nonetheless he was pleased to see a Englishman had who expressed an interest in his beloved Orchids, and yes I was privy to his latest creation, where he had cross-hybridised a 'Taiwanese Orchid' with one of his own, and the result was quite spectacular, I did mention you 'Kayes' but he would know you by another name of course?
I noticed many big changes also this time of arrival in Penang, none more so than when I sought out 'Jasmines' at BF, for a meal, only to be surprised at the absence of said establishment along with the Chinese Temple, that had been swept aside for development, for me very sad, but that's progress I suppose.
Our time as always at the 'E & O' was again excellent, I say that because we ventured along BF, and the Hotels along the front seemed empty by comparison to the 'E & O' in Geogetown, the reason being I was told it is low season, which struck me as being strange, as I never knew Penang to be seasonal!

hi Norman, I am very pleased to hear you had another enjoyable stay in Penang I am told the construction of the "new hill railway" will commence next month and should be completed in a year. The present hill railway will continue to run for another 6 months or so and then everything will stop until the new hill railway is ready. Lim of the orchid farm knows me for sure but he would not have a clue who "kayes' is. Best wishes, kayes.
