Very familiar sight, used to see this every day whilst travelling to and from Butterworth. The Tiger that is now hanging on one of the buildings in Beach St. used to be a prominent sight on one of the waterfront buildings, it could easily be seen as you approached the jetty coming from the mainland.

"My name is John Kilby-I served in the 1st Bn Royal Hampshire Regt 1953-1955-Went to Malaya in 1954-stationed in Bentong Pahang,had agreat holiday in Penang in 1954-stayed at a small hotel on the beach I think it cost about $20.00 a week-!!I shall always remember the ferry from the mainland-quite a romantic place".
