This spot which is right outside the Bayview Beach Resort is a good place to be when viewing/photographing the sunset in Penang. I photograph sunsets either here or at the Golden Sands Resort.

Hi Alan and welcome to the new Penang Talk Agree with you about the horses. What about those beach buggies? Some are driven by children.

Hi Kayes just getting to grips with new forum .
The buggies will not get stopped , although I believe they are illegal on the public beaches until there is a serious accident , have seen may accidents from them but none to date serious .
Would not let any child of mine loose on them which a lot of western tourist do , some of the kids can hardly reach footrests , perhaps they do not realise that any insurance they had would not cover any medical costs , hope it never happens , but think one day it will .
Court case in the UK at moment where a parent is accused of a serious offence relating to the death of his daughter , aged 8 I think , was killed on country road ,riding her christmas present from and parents .
Back in 4 weeks time for a short visit , back in Jauary 2009 for what I class as a proper holiday 3 months !!!
Pictures still perk me up when I am down , keep up the good work .
Regards Alan

Hi Kayes,
I ws staying at the Bayview when one of the Horses ended up in the pool. No one was injured although there was a few red faces amongst the management staff. There is now a fence along the beach front to stop ant unwelcomed visitors.
As for the buggies, I believe they have there place and it is not on a crowded beach. Better to be proactive than reactive!
Cheers,
JR

Hi Ryan, I wish I was there when that horse went into the pool That would have been a great photo opportunity. The problems caused by the horses, beach buggies and sea scooters remain unsolved over the years.

Hi Kayes Hows the old Casuarina coming along? I keep logging onto the Hard Rock Cafe web site but they do not seem to be giving much away, only tha fact that it will be opening early 2009. Some latest shots would be good!!

Cannot see the old Casuarina/Hard Rock opening early 2009 as they state .
None of the major UK tour companies have contracted rates yet nor have they had any indication of opening other than " some time in 2009 "

hello Derrick & Alan, I don't think the new Hard Rock Hotel (previously Casuarina) can open early 2009. I checked it out this morning and I think it is about 65% complete. Opening end 2009 is more likely. I took pic below this morning.

i was in batu at park royal in 2000, & every day we saw the horses out front for people to ride.
They had a purely magnificent operator who made a striking picture of elegance on his white stallion-(i think it was a stallion).
Hoping to return again to batu this july, just looking at prices etc.,
Looking at google earth,I see an awful lot of land emptied down the main strip
hope they haven't spoilt it too much.
