The poor old Casuarina isn't looking so crash hot in this photo! How are the renovations coming along Kayes? Time stands still for no man (or hotel!) Looking forward to learning the new format of the forum. Good job Kayes.

Hi and good to see you at the new forum. You should be able to get the hang of the new format after 3 o4 visits. Check out the calendar on the top left of home page. That can tell you at a glance the days on which I uploaded new pics to the forum. And about the Casuarina .... soon to become Hard Rock ... it is a case of slowly but surely. On relative terms, it is moving much faster than the Mutiara

Just a quick note Kayes, I think this new forum is excellant much easier than the old format. I had no trouble logging in on to this one and the results are so much quicker well done to all.
The Casuarina, well what can one say, very sad to see it in such a state. Mind you it certainly needed some work done to it it was getting very sad, saying that we loved staying there as the staff were the most friendly, if you ever stay at the Paradise Sandy Bay in TJ a lot of them work there now so say hello from Barb and Derrick if you go. One can see what is happening at the Casuarina by logging on to the Hot Rock website!
How about a few up to date shots of the Casuarina then Kayes.

Hi Derrick and welcome to the new Penang Talk I just passed by the Casuarina on Sunday and it looks pretty much the same as pic above. It is slowly but surely.

Hi Keys, the old girl is looking very sad to say the least but out of the ashes a new star will be born. I will be in Penang next week (up from OZ to see my second home)staying at the Bayview next door. Also sad to see the destruction of the global bay to make way for a petrol station. Geoff Flemming put me on to your sight and I think it iis the greatest my friend. You are our link to a beautiful place we once called home.
Cheers

Has the Lone Pine Hotel had a recent refurbishment? It was looking a bit tired last time we were there (2006)

Hi Kayes, Et Al.
I had once the privelege of staying at the 'Lone Pine' in a wonderful suite, occupying the upper floor, whilst at the 'E & O' and long may she remain the 'Grand Old Lady' of Batu Ferringhi, with no ghastly changes to change her appearance, it is a superb establishment in the 'Old Colonial' Style, a more gentler way of doing things, less hurried than most other hotels along BF.

Well all good things come to an end, the 'Lone Pine' is now the latest casualty to succumb to the winds of change. She has now closed for renovations, does anybody know how she will look? Not anything like it used to look in the sixties, it was sublime to sit under the Casuarina trees drinking tea and eating cucumber sandwiches english style.

Kayes, great pics of the Lone Pine! It was a place I went with my family to relax and have a quiet time. The last time I went there it was looking a bit worn but still had the same atmosphere and I loved it. We had a meal under the casuarina trees and then a drink at the place on the right past the pool. I was hoping to stay a couple of nights there on our visit to Penang in June next year.

hi BeeBee, the place you had a drink next to the pool is called "The Bungalow" but after the present extensive renovations/extensions, I wonder how the new Lone Pine will be.
