I have owned my share of fast cars which included a Porsche, a couple of Beemers, a fleet of Alfa Romeos and some rally cars. So I know that these performance machines need a good blast now and then. I can feel the restraint felt by supercar owners in places like tiny Singapore where there is hardly space to get the machine out of 2nd gear. Therefore Penang is a favourite destination for owners of supercars in Singapore. One quick run Singapore/Penang and all the dust is shaken off and plenty of adrenaline pumped out. This morning I spotted a group of supercars from the Scuderia FSG Singapore at the E&O Hotel in Farquhar Street, Penang.

Number 5. I could not find Number 4. I suppose many people, especially the Chinese find "4" too deadly. In Cantonese it simply means "die" and who wants to kick the bucket on an outing like this. On the Malaysian motor rallying scene, there is no competition number "14" as it means "sure die". In fact there was a tragic accident in a Malaysian motor rally a few years ago when a competing car with the competition number "14" crashed during a SS and both the driver and co-driver were killed.

6 is Tangerine. My Porsche 911S Targa was this shade of colour. I don't know what name Ferrari gives this colour but Porsche called it Tangerine.

I could not find Number 7 either. Maybe the owner took it out for an early morning spin round Penang Island. I have not heard of "7" being taboo in any way and in fact "7" is often treated as a heavenly number ..... seventh heaven, seven seas, seven wonders of the world, seven brides for seven brothers etc etc. But Number 8 looks gorgeous. A white Ferrari is simply outstanding and there can be no "alternative facts" to this claim.

The safety car is a Mercedes C Coupe AMG 63S v8 4.0. I wonder how it manages to keep to 110 kmh which is the speed limit on most Malaysian roads. I also wonder how long they took for the drive from Singapore to Penang if the convoy travelled at a speed where the adventurous Protons might dare overtake it.

Does a white Porsche look less mean than a black one?

I think the BMW i8 is pretty cool. What happens if it decides to reboot itself while travelling at 200 kmh?

Thanks for the heads-up via email, Kayes. Am relishing every moment of PenangTalk's resurgence & this display of super Grand Tourers.
However, I wonder why Japanese supercars such as the Honda NSX & the Nissan GTRs
are not in this convoy...
and not forgetting the Shelby AC Cobras, the FORD Mustangs, etc

Hypy, I think "brand" plays an important part here. For example, even though the GTR has "supercar specs", its maker "Nissan" is often not viewed as a "prestige brand" and also, the GTR is simply not expensive enough. Prestige and price often go hand in hand. I was hoping to see a Tesla Model 3 in this convoy but does Elon Musk's car qualify?
