I once called this special place home when I lived in Jalan Azyze with my parents. Great to see the colour and that change has not affected the area too much.
I will be visiting in early September to reminiss one more time.
Thanks Kayes

hello Ryan & welcome to the new Photo Gallery cum Forum. Jalan Azyze hasn't changed much. Most of the semi-D two storey houses remain the same. It is just opposite the RAAF School and must have been very convenient for you unless you were one of those who had to travel by bus all the way to Butterworth :-) Best wishes, kayes.

P.S. Here's a pic of a typical house in Jalan Azyze.

There used to be an ice-cream parlour about half-way down this row of shops where there was a table outside at which one would frequently see Aussie service families tucking in. Any one remember what it was called?

I remember the icecream parlour back in the 70's however I don't know what it was called. I think it was also the only place we could buy fresh milk at that time. There was also a furniture maker in that row of shops, and they made some nice pieces for me.

It was called Goody's Icecream Parlour (or Goodies, can't remember). I remember it well as we used to frequent it with our three small children. In the early 1980s Americ's was in this row of shops as well and we used to enjoy a night out listening to the live band - James Rozells, Joyce and others.

I also can't remember the name of that ice cream parlour even though I have taken my children there numerous times.

"I purchased a bowling ball and bag at a second hand shop in Adelaide Australia.
The name tag on the bag reads Brandon Corkill, 19 Chempah Puteh, Hillside, PG
I do not wish to be disrespectful of the dead, I am just curious as to who Brandon is/was.
Thanks!"

"Wow....brought up some wonderful memories. I was a clockwinder at 75Sqn from Sep80 to Jun81. I didnt live on the rock, but I had quite a few meals at the Hillside Hilton. Rotis or Murtibahs..excuse spelling..its been a while. I also used RRB as my second home - I was a singlie - and I never did get to say goodbye to all my friends at RRB, as I was medivac'd out in the back of a Herc at short notice. So if any of you remember me, this was tony la! at RAAF Radio Butterworth, the voice of the Royal Australian Air Force in Malaysia. Goodnite Wink"

" I was posted to RAF/RAAF Butterworth in 1967 and I am now living permanently in Penang. A few EX RAF friends asked me to send some photos of RAF houses in TB. I am having difficulty locating roads because all the names have changed. I anyone can direct me to where I can get an old map (60s/70s) of Tanjung Bungah and or Hillside I would very much appreciate it".
