Our first visit to Penang since 1966 was in 1990 for 25th Wedding Anniversary and we stayed at this Hotel, it was then the Orchid hotel. The area had changed so much that we did not even know we were in "Hillside". We called for a taxi and asked him to take us to hillside his reply was "You are already in hillside" he must have thought we mad but thought it was quite hilarious when we explained, incidentally it was the Chinese New Year just before firecrackers were banned. This was the start of a long association with Penang with a visit again to the Orchid Hotel and then after many years staying at the Casuarina including bringing our children out with us.

In our last two years in Penang we used to come here and go swimming after school. I had an scary accident in the childs wading pool Sad, I was carrying my brother who was just one and slipped and both ended up under the water, we were ok and my brother has never had a fear of water - he is a water baby like his mother Smile

We also used to come her for dinner and I loved the pettit fours after dinner.
We used listen to the live bands and my dad (who has now passed) always requested the song 'Blue Bayou'. That song always brings back memories of dad and being at this hotel. Smile
