The developers were not allowed to demolish the heritage building, St Joseph's Novitiate and it can be seen standing in the background.

The Gurney Paragon has two towers and this is the one next to Regency Terrace Condo.

Across the bay is Straits Quay which is still my favourite place. Easy access, no traffic jams and a cool breeze blowing most of the day Smile

Up to the 80s, Gurney Drive was a good place to take sunrise pics but now it is hard to avoid the ugly and muddy seafront.

Fusion of old and new ..... St. Joseph's Novitiate building and Gurney Paragon.

Whenever I am in Penang, somehow I have to be in Gurney Drive. Not sure if the shopping attracts my attention more but I just don't feel Gurney Drive is actually a sea front. The traffic around this area done'st seem to help too. My Ipoh cousin who used to stay across the Chinese Swimming Club when she was studying her A-level from KDU always complained about the traffic. She said no matter how short the distance is, it takes nothing less than 15 minutes to reach. Sad .....

The seafront at Gurney Drive may be muddy and ugly, but this sunrise pic. looks spectacular. The colourful sky is beautifully captured. The bright sun chasing the grey clouds away is professionally shot. Love to see the contrast and the moving clouds in the sky. Brilliant!!

Sitting on the Coffee Bean verandah on the first floor of Gurney Paragon at night, we could get the view as far as the floating mosque. In order to enjoy our Tea Latte and the comfy sofa seats, we had to look far (further than floating mosque if possible)to avoid looking at the beach front. There's nothing pleasant (from the beach front) to look at in the first place. Sigh .....

The parking attendant who moves around Gurney Drive issuing parking tickets and collecting parking fees by motorbike told us we had to pay parking fee until 12midnight. We told him in KL, it's until 6.30pm only. But he said parking in Penang is still cheaper. Later, we saw the word "12midnight" was printed over the old time (10pm) on the huge metal signboard by the roadside. Not sure if this new time extension is for festival season only.

Hi Kayes,

We were there after 11.30pm and Coffee Bean was about to close. We managed to order Latte only. Coffee Bean is located at the round balcony on the first floor, nearer to the St. Joseph's Novitiate, (maroon canopies on third pic. from top). Since it was already late, I didn't check out the shopping but I don't think there is any anchor departmental store here.

Third pic. from bottom: Beachfront esplanade with beautiful view and cool sea breeze ..... Hmmm. But when we were there, we were greeted with two huge God-of-Prosperity shaped balloons at the entrance. Something nice and attractive to welcome visitors! Smile

4th pic. from bottom: T.G.I. Friday's is at the right of pic. (red and white canopies).

Last pic.: This "architectural drawing" is brilliantly done!

The escalator at the side of Coffee Bean is smartly designed because it allows patrons to patronise these eateries even after shopping hours. Wondering when will St. Jo's open for business. This heritage building is very charming!

The Gurney Paragon Mall finally opened for business last week but certain shops will only open a month or two later.

Gurney Paragon is a fusion of Old World Charm with Modern Day Chic! This makes us fall in love with her at the very first sight! Those very antique mosaics are sweetly captured. Well done!!

This Mall has the most coffee and tea leaves. CBTL and Starbucks are facing off each other, while Pacific Coffee is nearer to the escalator!

Read about the AMAZing car park at this mall which had her soft opening about a year and a half ago. That beautiful Smart For Two Cabriolet is very lucky and SMART to park right in front of this mall! Smile

Haha! This Liang Chai Chai is so cheeky and playful!! Smile Ethan's Nike shoes look nice and comfortable. He is only 3 years old but he definitely has good taste and style - follows in his grandpa's footsteps. Thumbs Up!

Ethan is holding an exercise book and a pencil. At today's cyber age, it's a rare sight! It's worried that children won't know how to write or even hold a pen or pencil. Bravo to Ethan!

Transformers at the Paragon .....

Gurney Paragon is very happening now as compared to the time when we were here - before its official opening. We drove here immediately after reunion dinner. By the time we reached, it was almost 12 midnight and only Coffee Bean and Pacific Coffee were opened during that time of day and year (CNY eve). We took the escalator near Pacific Coffee and went straight to Coffee Bean. The Coffee Bean's staff was very obliging as our order was the last one for the day, in fact last order before CNY. We sat on the comfy sofas on the Coffee Bean's balcony while the staff was busy clearing and cleaning up before rushing home for CNY. We were left undisturbed to enjoy our Latte and the beautiful view of fireworks - coming from the direction of the floating mosque. When we left, all sofas and tables on the Coffee Bean's balcony were being stacked up except the ones we sat on ..... Very accommodating staff Coffee Bean has!! Thumbs Up!
