I am posting this message on behalf of CharlieN of UK.

"Hi, Thanks for your email re amended site. My wife and I lived in Penang from mid 1966 to the end of 1968 whilst I served with the RAF at RAAF Butterworth. We lived at 547D Tanjong Bungah Road opposite a Chinese Temple. between the Sandycroft Leave Centre and Tanjong Bungah. I have looked at aerial views of Penang at it appears that there are now large hotels in that area.

When we lived there the house was a semidetached property accessed by an access road from Tanjong Bungah Road. These were the only buildings at this point and adjacent was a vacant plot.

We had great memories with the local people especially those from a longhouse that went down to the beach. We often walked through the jungle opposite past the Malay attap houses and made good friends there.

A Chinese businessman had a property built opposite our house on the access road and when our twins were born (Minden Hospital), he requested that they were brought to his new house once it was finished as a good luck charm.

Perhaps you may be able to advise me how this area has changed.

The photos of the area now are a great surprise but with 40 years difference a great deal has changed but I like to see the photos how things have changed - for the better?

Anyway thanks for a super site and I shall mention it to other ex Penangites.

Thanks

Charlie"

Hi Kayes
Maybe I could post a request!! We also lived in hillside 1964 through 1966 at 8j Jalan Bahaudin, next door lived a chap who also was RAF at Butterworth, I remember we watched England v W,Germany world cup final on his TV on his porch with a case of Tiger beer to hand, happy memories. If by some coincidence he is a Penang Talk reader/viewer he may remember.
