If you are a visitor to Penang and you tell people you are staying in Chulia Street, almost all will assume you are some kind of backpacker and staying at a budget hotel. No longer, the Yeng Keng Hotel is out to prove that Chulia Street can be home to the rich and famous Smile It is a boutique hotel and room rates are RM300 upwards.

Can rival the Blue Mansion.

Tastefully done!! Love the colour combinations and the innovative way those blinds are being used to shield the sun - horizontally.

Wonder what is the Chinese name for this boutique hotel?

Awesome pics. Thanks for sharing, Kayes!

The word 'Keng' sounds very Hainanese. Curious to know the Chinese characters of this boutique hotel.

Oops ..... The Chinese name for Yeng Keng Hotel in Chinese characters mean: 'Yeng' is Sparrow and 'Keng' City. Initially I thought the word 'Keng' is from the words 'Keng Chew'. Perasan Smile ..... and I know it's not easy to translate Chiense names.

The arch at the entrance of Yeng Keng Hotel is beautifully erected and maintained. The two corners of this arch have curved roofs. Most if not all Chinese temples or ancient buildings have curved roofs at the corners. This is done to ward off evil spirits - it is believed that no evil spirits can pass through those sharp and curved corners.

Sweet and lovely colour combination - the Smart the two pillars.

I suppose the embossed design on the pillars (the last pic.) is Bunga Raya. But then, not very sure since there are only petals.

Heard so much about the 'Inchi Kabin' and Fried Spring Rolls prepared by the Hainanese chef from Yeng Keng Hotel. Since there are not many Hainanese chefs, hope to try these yummy dishes when in Penang next.
