I had breakfast this morning at the E&O with a friend from London who is staying there for a week. This hotel never fails to charm. They have recently put up a couple of cupboards with portraits of celebs and VIPs who have stayed there before. Can you recognise these people?

More celebs who stayed there. I am sure you can tell who is in the top photo? Smile

Still here Kayes, have been affected by the volcanic ash clouds over Europe, still we could certainly think of worse places to be marooned. Still have got flights on Friday so we will see you next year, but will keep in touch on this website from the UK.

Greetings 'Kayes' from Manchester, UK.

I remember vividly the pictures of previous dignitaries who had stayed at the 'E & O', whilst we ourselves were domiciled there two weeks in September, 2009, it was suggested that it was a favourite haunt of the 'Aga Khan' and Rita Hayworth, at that time, and who it seems spent many happy visits to the 'E & O'.

I have an interesting question for you 'Kayes', I am reading about the world famous shoe designer, one 'Jimmy Choo' who I may add as the honour of being bestowed with the title of 'Dato' from the Malaysian Government, such is his fame, and who used to live in Jalan Muntri, near to the old 'Hong Kong' shoe store, I have read where it was suggested he even lived at what was the old Green Room, but I would like to know precisely if known where in Jalan Muntri, Dato Choo was domiciled, and if it could be known where, then perhaps a plaque of sorts could be appended to the property, I'm sure many tourists would also be interested, I'm assuming perhaps even the great man who is domiciled in London, may read this very Penang Page, if only for the nostalgia, and enlighten us all. Cheers

hello Norman, I have heard that Jimmy Choo was an apprentice at the Hong Kong Shoe Shop at the end of Muntri Street near Penang Road and sometimes he slept in the shop, His home was elsewhere nearby.
