For 2010 onwards, Penang expects a huge influx of tourists/visitors, most of them arriving by sea. Pic shows protective fencing being put up along the sea wall at the Esplanade.

Protective fencing ..... why? To prevent sfrom falling into the sea? IMHO this eye sore thing is blocking the beautiful view of sea. Well, it's only my own view. Sad

This fence is terrible. Blocks sea view and fort Cornwallis & beaut heritage buildings. The place now looks like a prison, looking at these pics. Whats next, electrify the fence?

Greetings Kayes, Et Al,

No one seesms to have asked the obvious question, and that is, 'what are the fences in place for?' I myself am intrigued, as I agree with everyone's comments thus far, apart from your initial comments, 'Kayes' which it seems are mischievious!, please tell all.

Belated seasons greetings to all our fellow 'Penang Talk' bloggers from the UK, where it is presently snow covered abd freezing.

Cheers

hi Norman, Derrick, David and Orange, sorry about the little prank I played :-) The fencing was for a motorcycle race that was recently held at the Esplanade, the Petronas Sprinta. One of my earlier pics on this thread showed a Petronas container with the word "Sprinta" and I thought this would give some of you a clue! Immediately after the race, the fencing was taken down.

David, I read Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code in one sitting. It was so good that I couldn't put my PDA down as I was reading the eBook version. Then a month ago I bought the eBook version of his latest novel, the Lost Symbol and I am still ploughing through a couple of pages a day :-( The Lost Symbol is certainly not as exciting as the Da Vinci Code and all the descriptions of Masonic signs and symbols bore me as I am well versed with them. And here is something for you to decipher ..... if you connect all the last letters of each word in this message, you will get directions to hidden treasure in the Botanic Garden, Penang.

Yeah you certainly had us worried there Kayes. I know that the Penang council pulls some stunts but this would have taken it to far.
