Is Tanjong City Marina known by another name formerly, Kayes? And are those the old ferries that were once used to ferry Penangites to and fro the Mainland?

hi Phoebe, formerly the term "Church Street Pier" included the pier itself and also the wharf area near the pier. After extensive works, the "Tanjong City Marina" was created and it is actually part of the old wharf area. The old wharf was the landing place for many barter boats (mainly bum boats) from Indonesia and as far as Burma and Thailand. Pic below shows the wharf area of the old Church Street Pier before the creation of the Tanjong City Marina.

The ferries you see in the 2nd and 3rd pics are still in use and they operate daily.

Thanks for the quick but interesting history lesson, Kayes. Much appreciated. I didn't realise the ferries are still operating daily. Goes to show how long I've not been to visit Penang. I'll make up for it next month!
