An email from Gary Haseldine (gary@garyhaseldine.com)

"Arrived at Butterworth late 1967 until 1971 as a very young 20 year old Air Crash Rescue Fireman with Sgt Jim Ovenden and i'm sure the other guys name was Brian Gardiner RAAF. The fire section was mainly run by the RAF fireman, they were the most Professional fellows taught me skills that it helped me to become the youngest NCO in the RAAF fire service. The sad thing is I can see their faces however i can't for the life of me remember their names. All my photo's, records were destroyed of those times. Right from day one when we arrived all our gear was unpacked for us by our house boy who looked after four guys in one billet. then our debriefing what a hoot. The sgt in charge of this explaining how to treat the local people with such humor he had us in fits. I'm sure i remember Ray Green's name as i was with radio butterworth for sometime, had to shows one called THE TWO OF US, with another chap and the other i ran late at night called IN THE MOOD! Hey ray did you have a fan club? Yes i also belonged to the car club and drove a 1959 mk1 jaguar light grey in colour. Cost me $400 malay about $150 aussie long story how i got it so cheap. Loved the shopping, Penang pool the HOSTIE. The fine hotels, met an american guy at one them sitting at the piano bar his nick name was DYNAMITE and he worked on one of the oil riggs asked me to look after his new car he bought while he was away on the rigg for two weeks at a time. A volvo 1800e coupe, he was a Saint fan Simon Templer played by Roger Moore. The stuff that comes when you start writing! Great memories of Ipoh, Alor Star the gurka soldiers 67 riots, Air traffic controllers would invite me upstairs and show how everything worked (Check Wheels!),Penang Hill the Resorts all still there went back this year 2009 Jan with my partner Berenice stayed at The Holiday Inn fantastic ate mainly at Long Beach food arena. However the most important feelings and times back then and today which i know will never change and should'nt change are the people, the different cultures and Nationalities how we all are a one family. My whole life changed for the better being posted there as i met a very remarkable human being by the name of MR CHOY my martial arts instructor, he gave me a book to read called PsychoCybernetics by DR Maxwell Maltz this is where i am today because of this study i've written 2 books have become an international speaker and live in one the best places in Australia. Coffs Harbour off to London June 2010 for my step daughters wedding and planning to call back to penang on the way home. If anyone is interested my web site is www.garyhaseldine.com or type in Positive Mind Management. Loved to be in contact and have a chat with friendly people. Thanks Mr Choy, Thanks Kayes. Thanks to Everyone.Kindest regards Gary Haseldine.

P.S. I married Anne Coleman in penang
1970 had two children Phillip born on the Island and then Shelley in Australia, divorced 1977 Anne and i are still good friends.
