Always reminds me of the fabulous Anthony Burgess book about 1950's Malaya of the same name, a part of his Malayaan trilogy.
The surprise here is the true cost of beer now even in coffee shops. Prices are on a par with UK pubs whilst wages are nowhere near UK levels making Malaysian beer relatively expensive........... all the duty I guess?
The cup of coffee needs a stick of you char koay to dip in it for breakfast!! Mmmmmm!

In all the time I have been drinking this Nectar of The Gods,I have never seen a glass keep its head so well as those in the picture,at least not outside of a private home. That picture certainly announces it right, making me feel thirsty

Greetings, Jim & Et Al,

Not wishing to sound facetious Jim, if you are like myself, you've not left it in the glass long enough to form the perfect head as depicted in the picture, happy drinking, I know it's a thankless task, but someone as to do it!, Cheers.

Hi Jim, Et Al.

I'm back again this evening, but alas not imbibing the 'Tigers' as I should be, but instead imbibing a few 'Gin & Tonic', I may add if only to add Quinine into the system to deter the dreaded Malaria & Dengue fever, not that there is any chance of that in Georgetown, Penang, but it is a jolly way to have the falling down juices within the system, and that's my excuse, for what it's worth.

I agree with you in the respect of the typical 'Coffee Shop' a wonderful photo taken by 'Kayes' so reminisecent of Coffee Shops when I was there in the 70's, note the the cup of hot Kopi, and the light switch fittings, which have seen better days, but nonetheless the very fabric of the coffee shop, which always amazes we Orang Puteh when we visit the Pearl of the Orient, looking forward to arrival September 2009 to catch up with old friends and some new friends, and to chill at the 'E & O'.

Cheers to all and sundry.

Hypy, I had no time at all to meet Santa Claus and his flying reindeers. So no Xmas photos :-( Instead I spent the last two weeks with race horses as the Penang Turf Club hosted its biggest race meet of the year, the Penang Gold Cup. We had more than 500 guests from Australia, New Zealand, UK, Hong Kong, Japan etc and it was a busy busy time.
