The first (top) and last (bottom) pics make me want to bring forward my next trip back! The last pic somehow reminds me of the small fishing village (could be Pandamaran but unsure) where I stayed once in '82. My friends and I were overnight guests at the village headman's house. It was such a thrill for us to go out to sea with the fishermen in the pre-dawn hours. And it was such an awe-inspiring experience for us to sit in the fishing boat far out at sea in the dark just watching the sun rise ever so slowly out from behind the horizon. I wish I could do that again some time. Smile

hi Phoebe, at least 50 fishing boats (sampans) set out to sea from Tanjong Bungah every morning between 6.30am and 7.30 am. They take off from that part of the beach where the Hollywood Restaurant is and this is also my favourite spot to take sunrise pics during certain times of the year. I am sure for a small fee, most of these small boats will take you for a ride.

The pictures taken are indeed beautiful with the silhouette of the boats' masts agains the tranquil water. I feel relax just by looking at them. The development of marinas is indeed a good idea to encourage more tourists visit our beautiful George Town. The arrival of yatchs also add to the townscape to our already beautiful city. Much credit has to be given to the authority for initiating the project.

However, I am less enthusiastic about the architecture of the buidling of this marina. It is a completely new building but dressed in a colonial style skin. A particular style of architecture must relate to a particular time and event where it is located. By duplicating a bygone style onto a new building is like is like encouraging piracy on our heritage. It is not original, it simply imitates. It is just an empty shell without any substance. The architect of this building should get his licence suspended.

Fortunately there are more yatchts docking at the marina now that we don't have to pay too much attention to the building.
