Kayes, I'm a real klutz when it comes to Penang streets but there's a very happening place, makan-wise, I remember being taken to quite often in the '70s. It was a corner shoplot at a very busy junction. The name Macalister Road keeps coming to mind. Is there such a place?

Phoebe, you remembered right, it is probably Macalister Road. That stretch from the Penang Road junction to the Anson Road junction has hundreds of hawker stalls. You could have been to New Lane which is just off Macalister Road and it is my fav hawker centre. That corner coffee shop has a lot of good stuff. Or you could have gone to the one near the Red Rock Hotel (formerly Mandarin Hotel during your time) and that corner coffee shop also has some good hawker stalls,
