Moving slowly but surely, the now 5 storey (previously planned for 11 storeys) Royale Bintang Boutique Hotel by Boustead. The scale down was to comply with UNESCO's guidelines for endorsing George Town as a world heritage site.

When I stayed at the Royale Bintang at The Curve in KL, I saw this pic in the lobby. It is an artist's impression because the hotel is yet to be completed.

Wondering why is there a long delay? There is no much changes between Kayes's second and last pic. except the removal of the scaffolding - after almost 21 months.

IMHO the artist's impression with roofs which Kayes photographed during his stay at Royale Bintang Muatiara Damansara looks better. Oh yes, Kayes, the new Royale Bintang Surian is almost ready! Smile

Due to open November 2013. Some fit out delays and a lack of staff. They plan to have students doing work experience.

November?! Thanks cope for the great news! It coincides with the opening of Penang Second Bridge. Hope Kayes will provide us the latest news - with pics, as always! :-)

Anyone from the service industry knows "First Impression Counts!". That's why some new hotels or new restaurants take in trainees from Catering or Hotel Management schools to boost their staff strength and to provide more excellent service to their customers when opening their new establishments. This is a win-win situation. After the 3, or sometimes 6 months' stint, these trainees get good exposure and experience. By then, the new establishments should have gained reputation and their system running smoothly. Trainees get little or no allowance at all. At the end of the duration, some of them are employed by the same establishment while others prefer to work with more established ones elsewhere for better prospect.

Cope, I took this pic a few days ago. It doesnt look as though the Bintang Royale can be ready to take in guests by November 2013.

Unlike Royale Bintang Damansara ..... Royale Bintang Damansara was completed and opened its door for business - without we noticing it even though the area around The Curve is also busy.

It looks like recruitment is not the main issue here. Anyway, this new hotel looks neat and location is superb.

Growth of trees and hedge fence are the only differences between the last pic. and second last pic. from bottom. Thanks Kayes for all the pics.

The Royale Bintang Penang has finally opened for business. They are presently giving an introductory offer of 50% off the published room rates. I am planning to stay there a couple of nights with my grandson so that we can wander around George Town on foot Smile

The main entrance to the hotel might be hard to locate at first as it is through a side lane behind the GPO. And along that side lane are these very old and famous stalls serving one of the best Malay Rice in Penang.

Next to the hotel, along Weld Quay is the Penang Interactive Museum where you can see interesting murals like this.

Thanks Kayes for the interesting pics. Those murals are tastefully done and clearly captured. Well done! Love the colour and design of the museum's canopy.

Read about The Royale Bintang Penang's promotional press ad this morning and with the newly-opened second bridge, there is no reason for anyone to delay visiting Penang. Smile

As for those stalls that serve best Malay rice, I am sure it's a plus point for hotel guests and at the same time, it can attract more foodies to this area. Thumbs Up!

You will find a few days in that area very interesting now though I used to enjoy how quiet it was after business hours.

Whiteaways arcade is always busy and the Pinang Peranakan Museum on Church St is beautiful.

The Rice Millers is really going to turn this into a lively area.

Not forgetting those beautiful sunrise/sunset ..... and the entire area around Hai Nan Town Restaurant is just spectacular during these times! And of course, all these are away from the congestion of the usual tourist spots in the island.

Besides the attractive introductory rate, I am sure many like to stay in brand new hotels as everything is new from A-Z. Stayed in The Gurney when their introductory rate was RM150 for junior suite and RM130 for G-Hotel. No complaints for both hotels when they were newly opened. All staff were friendly and very attentive. The chambermaid from G-Hotel was very anxious to please us, so much so she gave us red packets from Cold Storage instead of their own hotel's (G-Hotel) when we requested for empty red-packets during Chinese New Year. We appreciate her kind gesture as G-Hotel was new and their red packets weren't ready yet.

I expected the restaurant to be fine dining. There was no dress code and they had a tv on showing sport. Maybe they are hoping for the World Cup trade.
