Hi Kayes
From the shape of the trunk and branches this looks like a Rain Tree that has lost all its foliage. Am i right? Do you have a pic of it in its full glory?

hi Blue Grass, this tree doesn't look like those rain trees at the Lake Garden in Taiping where the branches all point downwards to the water. Here's a pic I took in 2007 of the same tree at the Botanic Garden Penang which shows the tree's foliage. As far as I remember, it went botak sometime in 2008 and it never regained its glory. Wonder what happened?

That was fast Kayes! Thanks. Even with a full crown of leaves, this Rain Tree does not look too healthy. Do keep us informed of the state of its health now that it is completely 'botak' It would indeed be a pity if it has given up the ghost.

Hello Blue Grass, it looks as though the tree has regained its health Smile I took this pic this morning.

Thanks Kayes. Really glad to see the tree coming to life again after being dormant for so many months. Even the Bird's Nest Fern on the branch seems to have suffered from over exposure to the sun.

You might be interested to know that the popular name of this tree comes from the way the leaves close at night, or during heavy rain, which allows dew or raindrops to drip off them. Hence Rain Tree!
