This location is just opposite Mar Vista and near the floating mosque. When I am in Penang I stay there.

If you go left there will be three or four units of cottage style home. I really love those properties. I just wonder if they are for sale. The last time I was in Penang sometime in April I manage to inspect the properties. Love it and very modern style. The workers told me that the properties are own by a foreigner.
The next property I like is a depleted home which was once own by a doctor. Few block away from the previous property. My parent used to rent the home during school holidays. I love to fish from the walk out stone patio.Would not mind to see some pictures Kayes.

Norman,we are getting off track here but I knew a typiste,by the name of Anna Ng.A very nice Lady she was to,a Widow in fact.Who brought up her Children, mostly,on her own. That was no mean feat in the Malaysia of the late 1970,s.Indeed no small feat today,I had a great deal of respect for that Lady

Hi Jim, Et Al.

Thank you for the insight into my past for me this evening, I seem to remember at the 'Record Club' them wanting sight of my Stylus, before I could be a member of their 'Record Club' all very above board, and after me spending heaps of Ringgits at the 'Eastern Photo' for top end Stereo Equipment.

My association with the 'NAAFI' on Butterworth, was to buy English soaps for the Civilian Staff employed locally, in particular for one young lady by the name of 'Anna Ng', who at the time lived in Ipoh, and was employed as a typist, wonder where she is now these days? Happy Days, thanks Jim.

Hi Mollie,
I've some information on temporary rank and is as follows:
"Rank. Is the official level in the military hierarchy, with appropriate pay and allowances.
· Substantive (Rank). Is the fully paid and confirmed (commissioned) permanent rank.
· War substantive (Rank) The holder may revert at the end of war to previous rank held
· Acting (Rank). The holder assumes the pay and allowances appropriate to the acting rank, but a higher commanding officer may revert him to previous rank held.
· Brevet (Rank). Is a temporary rank, often honorary, without the pay and allowances appropriate to the rank
· Local or Temporary (Rank). Is an unpaid rank, usually granted for a specific task operation or mission in a specific location or period. "

Information on Australian army ranks can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Defence_Force_ranks_and_insignia

Thank you the information Ann I seem to learning a lot lately! Going back to his rank could my Aunt have got mixed up and it was a temporary rank, did they have temporary ranks during and just after the war. I am certain when he came home and went to camp every year as a reserve his rank was captain but again its only a child's memory.
