Hi there. I think your friend saw a Bufori MKII. From the short videos downloaded from Bufori site, it appears that during that period, Bufori was available with 1.6cc Volkswagen engine. I think they only produce MKII with 2.2cc Subaru engines these days. They come with both hard and soft tops. Manufactured in Kepong, the man you're looking for is Jerry Khouri - one of the brothers who started the business of building their very own modern classic - not replicas, not restoration, but new cars that are custom made to requirements of each customer. The last I checked, each MKII costs around RM200k.

Just last year, I hired a soft top for 40 hours and had the thrill of driving it myself. Few words could describe the sensation - powerful (you dont even need 1st gear), sweet exhaust sounds, happy glances and hand waves from passing vehicles, wind in your hair, good old days of a very heavy clutch and steering, creaks and hard suspensions. The things I felt lacking were the slow response of brakes (in view of power), badly angled side mirrors, and absence of overhead roll bar (for safety-just in case).

If the engine position (front), cc size, and realistic heat vents on body of a TD2000 can be incorporated in a Bufori MKII, I think it'll be even better.

I'm now waiting for another ocassion suitable to hire that baby again - just for the thrill of it.
